Every now and then, Gitwit is approached with a big crazy idea and set completely free on how to bring that idea to life. The Tulsa Loves Ikea campaign was one of those times. In an effort to score Tulsa a spot on the ‘new locations’ list for Ikea, the team created the ultimate fangirl campaign to show just how much Tulsa deserved the store.
As the lead designer on this project, my task was to create a brand and experience that screamed IKEA as soon as you saw it, but also let little notes of Tulsa shine through. With how energetic this campaign idea was, the assets needed to support and echo that enthusiasm.
Using the classic IKEA instruction manual illustrations, brand colors, and overall tactile-build-you-own look and feel, this brand and campaign took on a life of its own that was truly a joy to witness.

One of my favorite parts of this project was bringing in the entire design team to sketch out concepts with me. I set up a quick brief and handoff for the team and then set everyone free for an hour to create as many rough sketched concepts as possible. More brains are always better than one and we ended up using nearly all of the sketched logos as main elements of the campaign or as extra assets sprinkled throughout.
