Que Gusto is an Ecuadorian café in downtown Tulsa, specializing in authentic empanadas, yucca fries, arepas, and tamales. As graduates of a local food entrepreneurship incubator, Que Gusto’s owners were extremely aware that once they taste it, Tulsans love their food; but getting them to understand upfront what Ecuadorian food is proved to be a barrier.
Que Gusto came to Gitwit needing help with the visual identity of their brand, focused on the environmental branding of their new restaurant space. Through initial conversations, we realized that Que Gusto not only needed a visual identity, but also needed some brand messaging that would clearly position its style of food in a landscape of Tex-Mex and traditional Mexican food.

Que Gusto came to us with a logo that they were using while in their Incubator program. The logo had smoke coming off of the text to represent a hot empanada. Taking this into consideration, we began sketching. Some sketches were inspired by Ecuador where the owners are from, but the one they ended up choosing as their final was actually inspired by the flow of smoke coming off of food.
